The swallowtail gable is a distinctive feature of traditional Minnan residences. Additionally, the façade of the Flower Tile Homestay is adorned with an abundance of flower tiles imported from Japan in the 1930s, restored with funding from Kinmen National Park to revive its former glory. With the largest collection of flower tiles in all of Kinmen, it can truly be considered a "Flower Tile Museum."
Introduction
Kinmen's Flower Tile Museum features a prominent wall adorned with vibrant ceramic tiles, also known as glazed tiles, showcasing intricate patterns of fruits and flowers. These tiles, rich in variety and color, beautifully complement the red swallowtail brick walls. Historically, the homeowners decorated their residences as a symbol of their successful ventures in Southeast Asia, reflecting their substantial wealth.
Today, the Waterhead Flower Tile Homestay stands as a testament to the preservation of these exquisite old tiles and is often referred to as the "Kinmen Flower Tile Museum." Located within the Waterhead community and adjacent to the "Deyue Tower," guests can leisurely stroll through the area and immerse themselves in the atmosphere and history of local heritage.
