The work of architect Huang Sheng-Yuan, “Climbing the Roof to Go Home,” blends modern design with traditional Minnan-style courtyards, nestled within the sandy dunes of Zhuowei. With endless views of the Lanyang fields and the nearby Guishan Island, this residence infuses rustic aesthetics into the concept of “travel,” allowing you to experience a “breathing house” and enjoy the fresh air.Introduction From 1996 to 2002, it took two years of design and four years of construction to complete this home. The architect, drawn to the tradition of red bricks, the simplicity of white walls, the minimalism of exposed concrete, and the warmth of solid wood, utilized light, wind, and the terrain of Lanyang to let nature flow into the home. He experienced the wind, sunlight, and humidity in the fields, considering climate changes and understanding family habits and movement patterns as his main design inspirations. The I-Lan residence took six years to complete from scratch, and this “slow” design has infused the architecture with the essence of family life. Now, over twenty years later, it has become more than just a living space; it stands as a treasured piece of art in the fields.
